Living in a busy community, it is important to protect yourself and your belongings in the event of theft. While you may love your neighbors and trust most people that live in your community, there’s always a chance of an outsider looking for something to steal or to cause trouble. Check out these safety tips!
- When you arrive at the parking lot, look around for anyone that might be sitting in their car but try to avoid parking too far from your apartment, and don’t park next to any large trucks or vans.
- If you are coming back from a shopping trip, put your belongings in the trunk of your vehicle before you arrive home.
- Don’t unload your car in the dark by yourself unless you have perishable items that can’t wait overnight.
- Take the time to look over your surroundings and note any cars that you don’t recognize.
- Keep your vehicle free from identifying items such as mail, and lock your vehicle at all times.
- If you are concerned about people breaking into your vehicle, get an alarm installed. If your alarm goes off and there is an intruder, call for help and don’t try to deal with the criminal on your own.
- Pay attention to your surroundings and don’t get out of your vehicle if things don’t feel right.
- Report any light outages to the office right away.
